The Iron Scholarship Fund

Rewarding academic endurance

Our goal is to raise $5,000.00 by Sept. 1, 2010.

As of 8/3/2010, we’ve raised $4,465.60.

Will you help us reach this goal?

Thanks to our donors who have helped us so far!

Ironman Lake Placid was held on July 25, 2010. It was quite possibly the most amazing day of my life. The race is 140.6 miles total, with a 2.4 mile swim, 112 bike, and 26.2 mile run, which must be completed within 17 hours. As part of this journey, we are raising money for the Iron Scholarship, which rewards academic endurance. The scholarship is a competitive award for college students based on extreme financial need, AND solid academic standing (as indicated by at least a 3.0 GPA along with an essay on “Academic Endurance” and references). The scholarships will be applied to tuition or books.

Completing an Ironman is our dream, just as a college education is a dream for many. Each mile we swim, bike or run has been dedicated to raising funds for the Iron Scholarship, to help students achieve their dreams. Your contribution to The Iron Scholarship Fund makes each stroke, each pedal, each step worthwhile.

So far, we’ve raised $4,465.60, thanks to the contributions of our generous donors! We hope to help as many students as we can, and we are counting on your support to help us. Any amount is greatly appreciated – whatever you can afford. We know these are difficult economic times, and they are especially tough on these students as well. This makes your contribution even more important.

If everyone who visits this site donates just $5, we will be able to achieve our goal – 3 times over!

Your contribution is tax deductible, and ALL of the proceeds will benefit the award recipients.

The more money we raise, the more students we can help. Our ultimate goal is to raise $5,000. With your help, I know we can reach that goal. With your help, we can change some lives for the better. If you can’t make a contribution at this time, please consider sharing this website with someone who might be interested.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment. Thank you so much for your consideration of support for this cause.

There are two ways you can donate:

1. Personal check, made out to the Rowan University Foundation. In the memo line of the check, designate “The Iron Scholarship.” This memo ensures that your donation goes directly to the fund. Checks may be mailed to my attention: Dr. Maria Simone, Rowan University, 201 Mullica Hill Road, Glassboro, NJ 08028.23. Online donation, by visiting https://giving.rufoundation.org/. The directions for online giving are as follows:

  • Once you arrive at this site, you will be asked to provide your name, address, and contact information (email only required.)
  • In the “Donation Information” section, type your desired donation amount.
  • Under Donation Designation,” select other.”
  • After you select “other,” another drop down box will appear directly below. Select “specify in pymt info below.”
  • Following the donation information section, you will see a text box in which you should type “The Iron Scholarship” to designate where the funds should be allocated. (Above the box it reads, “If you selected ‘Other,’ please indicate your designation in the space below:”) This designation is necessary to make certain that your donation goes to the right fund.
  • After this section, you can choose to dedicate your donation if you wish, and then fill in your billing information.
  • You may also choose to make the gift anonymous if desired.

Thanks for your support! I’ll be offering regular updates on the fundraising, as well as the training. So, please check back often.
