I am an avid runner, and have recently begun competing in triathlons. The more time I spend training – running, swimming or cycling – the more I realize it is the engine that powers much of the rest of my life – be it my civic life, my professional life or my personal life. Running, swimming, and cycling have taught me to challenge myself, to push beyond my comfort zone, to rise to the adventure, and to relish the suffer.
To pay my bills, I have an engaging career as an associate professor of communication studies at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ. I teach a variety of courses, but my favorite courses are those that allow me to mix my expertise in media and political communication. My research interests center on a participatory civic culture, and the role that technology, economics and politics play in constraining and enabling such a culture.
In my civic life, I am committed to volunteering and engaging in the political process. I believe in working toward a society in which social justice prevails, and citizens can participate in decisions and actions that affect our collective life. I consider myself progressive in my political ideology. More importantly, I am open to engaging discussions, in which we respect each others’ positions and are willing to share our experiences to work toward social justice.

I came across your blog from google alerts; I work for a non-profit organization called Crossing the Finish Line (we provide respite excursions for adult cancer patients and their loved ones).
We have a Team participating in the Bill Gallagher 10 Mile Island Run in Sea Isle City, NJ in August, and I wanted to let you know of this great opportunity to run 10 miles and fundraise for a great cause! More information can be found at http://www.crossingthefinishline.org. Thanks so much for your time and good luck with your efforts!
